Vietnam Airlines and Tarom to join Skyteam

Vietnam Airlines and Romanian carrier Tarom will join Skyteam in June, the airline alliance has announced.
The two airlines will "reinforce the Asian and eastern European network of the alliance," said Skyteam.
Vietnam's national carrier (airline code VN) will join as a full member. The airline was founded in 1956 and operates out of two hubs: Hanoi's Noi Bai airport and Ho Chi Minh City's Son Nhat airport.
Vietnam Airlines has a large domestic and intra-Asia route base, plus services to Paris, Moscow and Frankfurt. It also codeshares on a number of routes with airlines such as Cathay Pacific, American Airlines and Qantas.
Tarom will join as an associate member in June, sponsored by Air France. The Romanian airline was first announced as a future SkyTeam member in 2005.
Air France will represent Tarom in all decision-making with other member airlines. Once it joinsSkyteam, Tarom will start offering the Air France loyalty programme Flying Blue, replacing its own Smart Miles frequent flyer scheme.
The dates for the joining ceremonies are yet to be announced.
