Turkish to purchase Boeing 777-300ERs

Turkish Airlines has signed an order for five Boeing 777-300ER, adding to the three aircraft of this model currently being leased from Jet Airways.

Turkish began leasing the 777-300ER aircraft from Jet at the end of last year (see online news January 12). These planes feature the Indian carrier’s fully-flat beds in business and first class suites. These aircraft have been rostered on to routes including London-Istanbul (for a recent review click here).

But the new announcement is the first time Turkish will have purchased 777-300 aircraft directly from Boeing.

“The 777-300ER will provide Turkish Airlines with exceptional fuel economy, efficiency and reliability, combined with unmatched levels of payload and range,” said Aldo Basile, vice president of Sales for Europe, Russia and Central Asia, Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “It will also help Turkey build on its position as a rapidly growing market of international importance.”

Turkish Airlines joined Star Alliance last year (see online news April 3, 2008). For more information visit thy.com.
