Tune Hotels continues UK expansion

27 Jun 2012 by BusinessTraveller

Tune Hotels has opened its third property in London, a 137-room hotel located on Praed Street, a few minutes’ walk from Paddington station, with direct links to Heathrow via the Heathrow Express.

Tune Hotel Paddington joins existing properties in Westminster opposite Lambeth North station, and on Folgate Street close to Liverpool Street station.

The hotel features a mixture of double, twin and accessible rooms, with a choice of windowed or (cheaper) windowless options. Guest can also avail of the property’s café, as well as discounts at a number of nearby bars and restaurants by showing their Tune Hotels keycard.

The Tune Hotels offering focuses on providing a “five-star sleeping experience at a one-star price”, with features including good quality beds and linen and power showers, and chargeable extras such as wifi internet access, towels, safe, hairdryer and Freeview TV channels.

CEO Mark Lankester confirmed the group will also open a hotel in Edinburgh this December, and said it was also in discussions regarding a property in Canary Wharf.

He said that while the two existing London hotels had initially attracted a mainly leisure market, the economic downturn has led to companies applying “far more scrutiny” on hotel bookings, with an emphasis on cost cutting leading to the Liverpool Street property in particular now running at around 40 per cent corporate guests.

The group’s fourth London property will open on July 9, located on the corner of Grays Inn Road and Swinton Street, a few minutes’ south of King’s Cross St Pancras station.

With the hotel opening just before the London 2012 Olympics, and St Pancras station providing direct links to the Olympic Park, the group says it has rooms available over the Games period for just £99, along with “limited availability” at its Westminster, Liverpool Street and Paddington properties.

Business Traveller will be staying at the new Tune Hotel Paddington in early July, and will publish an online review shortly afterwards.
