Travelodge to take over Mercure Gatwick

19 May 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Budget hotel brand Travelodge has acquired the Mercure London Gatwick Airport hotel, located a few minutes north of the South London airport on Povey Cross Road.

The hotel - which was rebranded from the Renaissance London Gatwick to Accor’s Mercure offering in 2008 (see online news May 8, 2008) – will undergo “a significant refurbishment and expansion programme to convert the hotel in line with the Travelodge brand”.

This will involve expanding the room count from 257 to 400, but in the process facilities including the hotel’s 11 meeting rooms, three restaurants, swimming pool and gym will be lost.

The hotel will be renamed the Gatwick Airport Central Travelodge, and will join the Travelodge Gatwick Airport located to the south of the airport, and nearby properties in Redhill, Horsham and Dorking.
