Budget hotel chain Travelodge has opened its latest property in the City of London, a 75-room hotel located on St Swithin’s Lane close to the Bank of England and Bank underground and DLR stations.

London Bank Travelodge is located within a grade II listed building next to the new headquarters for private investment banking company Rothschild.

According to the group the new hotel has reported “a record level of bookings”, with the majority of reservations coming from “city workers who have taken advantage of Travelodge’s low-cost rooms and booked ahead in preparation of the Christmas party season”.

Travelodge says it will open 26 new hotels over the next 24 months, with ten new London properties scheduled to open before the 2012 Olympic Games, including the 188-room Travelodge London Stratford located close to the Olympic Park.

The group will also open the 131-room Travelodge Excel Centre next year, in time to cater for visitors to Olympic events at the complex including boxing, fencing, weightlifting and wrestling.

The new London hotels (a full list of which is detailed below) will take Travelodge’s London portfolio to 54 properties and 7,705 rooms by next summer.
