Travelodge opens 11th Edinburgh property

19 Aug 2010 by BusinessTraveller

Budget hotel chain Travelodge has opened its latest property in the Scottish capital, a 96-room hotel located on Waterloo Place.

The £7.9m Travelodge Edinburgh Central Waterloo Place is located close to Princes Street, and is the fifth Travelodge branded property to open in Edinburgh in the last 15 months, and the 11th overall. The budget brand now offers a total of more than 1,000 rooms in the Scottish capital, which it says makes it the largest hotel operator in the city.

Travelodge says that its growth in Edinburgh has been “fuelled by the Scottish capital's unprecedented demand for budget accommodation”, with branded low-cost hotels now representing just over 20 per cent of the city’s hotel supply.

The chain aims to grow its operation in the city by another 75 per cent by 2012, adding that the majority of its recent growth in the Scottish capital had been achieved by taking over four three- and four-star hotels, adding nearly 400 rooms to its portfolio.

Travelodge recently opened its 400th property in the UK, a 279-room hotel in London's Waterloo (see online news July 1).

Rooms at the new Travelodge property start from £19 – for more information visit travelodge.co.uk.
