A VHS recording of a 1993 promotional video for London City airport has been discovered in the attic of one of the airport’s air traffic engineers.

Now uploaded onto You Tube by the airport, the video opens with images of jet skiers, rowers and swans on the Royal Docks, and follows two travellers – Elizabeth James who is flying into LCY from Zurich, and Geoffrey Campbell, arriving into Heathrow – as they make their way into central London.

Power-suited Elizabeth speeds through the airport and into a waiting taxi “all in just five minutes from landing”, for her 15 minute journey to the city, while Geoffrey struggles with traffic jams as “blood pressure rises and deadlines are lost”.

Eagle-eyed viewers will note the check-in desks at LCY for now defunct carriers including Sabena, as the video boasts of “the shortest check-in times in Europe”, and ends with the tagline “London City airport – where time is on your side”.
