Room Mate Hotels has unveiled its third Barcelona property, with a fourth to follow later this year.
The group – which currently has 23 hotels in cities including Amsterdam, Milan and New York - has opened the 81-room Room Mate Carla on Calle Mallorca close to Paseo de Gracia.
The property’s interiors incorporate “the influences of industrial themes, ceramics, celebrated trencadis mosaics, and Gaudí’s modernism, as well as reflecting the cosmopolitan aspects and urban development that the city has experienced over the last four decades”.
Features include “a large vertical structure at the front desk area made up of dozens of enameled ceramic pieces”, and in-room décor consists of white furniture, contrasting with “bright colours and bold shapes on the raised headboards, walls and rugs”.
Room Mate Carla joins the existing Room Mate Emma and Room Mate Pau in the city, with Room Mate Anna scheduled to open in late summer, at the intersection of Calle Aragon and Paseo de Gracia.
A total of eight Room Mate properties are due to open in 2016 and 2017, in destinations including Rotterdam, Istanbul, and Madrid, bringing the group’s portfolio to over 4,000 rooms.
Marriott International recently announced plans to open an Edition Hotels property in the Citutat Vella district of Barcelona.
