The big picture: Dreamliner takes flight

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner finally got off the ground yesterday, as the aircraft took off for the first time in front of 12,000 employees at Paine Field, Everett.
Aircraft ZA001 took off at 1027 local time, completing a three-hour flight before landing at Boeing Field at 1333.
The flights marks the start of a testing programme that will see six 787 aircraft “flying nearly around the clock and around the globe” in preparation for the first delivery in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Boeing currently has 840 orders for the Dreamliner, with Japanese carrier ANA due to be the first airline to take delivery.
