Taymouth Castle to reopen as luxury hotel and golf resort

13 May 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Historic Taymouth Castle in Scotland is to open as luxury hotel and spa resort later this year, with the attached golf course also set to be upgraded to championship standards.

The Neo Gothic style castle is located close to the village of Kenmore in Perthshire and dates back to the early 19th century (with the original castle on the site dating back to 1550).

Details on the hotel are sketchy at present, but the main rooms within the castle are currently being restored ahead of the opening, including work on the Queen Victoria Suite of rooms, where she stayed during her visit in 1842.

There are also plans to upgrade the James Braid-designed golf course, situated in the old deer park of the estate.

Scottish golfer Stephen Gallacher (nephew of former European Ryder Cup Captain Bernard Gallacher) has been appointed to work on the project, which will include lengthening the course from 6,066 yards to 7,100 yards, and restoring original design elements including raised green complexes and steep faced pot bunkering. The aim is to complete these works in 2012.

Further plans call for leisure and residential properties to be added around the estate, with views over the course, home concierge and butler service, golf membership packages and helicopter transfers available.

The castle is located around one and a half hours drive from Glasgow and Edinburgh, and 30 minutes by helicopter.
