Taj Hotels has opened its latest hotel in the Indian city of Thirunvananthapuram, and has also launched new brand Gateway Hotels.
The Taj Residency Trivandrum (Trivandrum being the former name for the capital of southern Indian state of Kerala) is located in the centre of the city and features 137 “contemporarily designed rooms” with “traditional Indian influences”.
Facilities include a 420-sqm banquet hall, a “Cyber Zone”, library, outdoor pool and lawn area, Jiva Spa, Twist bar, The Deli, and all-day restaurant The Fifth Element.
The opening comes as Taj launches a new brand within its portfolio, going by the name of Gateway Hotels. Taj describes the new offering as “a pan-India network of upscale hotels and resorts that offer travel nomads a crisp, contemporary and warm experience”.
The brand has launched initially with 26 properties, including 16 rebranded Taj properties in locations including Bangalore, Jaipur and Varanasi, and new hotels in Mumbai, Chennai and Pune.
Gateway Hotels will be divided into zones – Enter, Stay, Hangout, Meet, Work, Workout, Unwind and Explore – with “a 24/7 approach to all services”, and amenities including yoga mats in all rooms, and Glycemic Index foods on offer.
Taj says it is also investigating other brand opportunities, including new business, leisure, and extended stay categories. Taj Hotels, Resorts and Palaces was recently named Best Business Hotel Chain in India at this year’s Business Traveller Awards – click here for more information.
