Swiss announces UK, US and China expansion

28 Jul 2011 by BusinessTraveller

The carrier will add a daily service from Zurich to Beijing next year, and will roster a larger aircraft on flights to New York Newark. Swiss will also increase frequencies on its London City-Geneva route this winter.

The new service to Beijing will commence on February 11, 2012 using Airbus A340 aircraft, switching to A330-300 from March 25 - both these aircraft feature the carrier's latest business class product.

The new route will add to existing flights to the Chinese cities of Shanghai and Hong Kong. Swiss says the flight will offer “convenient connections out of London”, with the outbound flight departing at 1730 and arriving in Beijing at 1020 the next day, and the return leg leaving the Chinese capital at 1205, landing back in Zurich at 1600.

The carrier will also increases frequencies between London City and Geneva from four to five-times daily from October 31, and will add new flights to Nice and increased frequencies to Madrid from next February. However Swiss’ service between Geneva and Budapest will be withdrawn for the winter season.

Finally the carrier is to swap its current all-business class service between Zurich and New York Newark (using Privatair B737 aircraft) for its own A340 aircraft from March 31, 2012. The flight will offer a three-class configuration, and will be increased from six-times weekly to daily.
