Swire to open Chapter Hotels brand in UK

19 Oct 2010 by BusinessTraveller

Asian group Swire Hotels has revealed that it will expand into the UK market under the Chapter Hotels branding, with the first property due to open in Cheltenham next month.

A subsidiary of the Swire Group, major shareholders of the Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific, Swire Hotels currently has two properties in Hong Kong (Upper House and East) and a further hotel in Beijing (The Opposite House).

The group’s expansion into the UK will see it operate under the Chapter Hotels brand, offering “superb quality, excellent value contemporary hotels, each drawing inspiration from their location in the heart of great British towns and cities”.

The brand’s first property – The Montpellier Chapter – is due to open in Cheltenham in late November. There are few details available on the hotel at present, although according to thisisgloucester.co.uk the property will occupy the former Kandinsky Hotel on Bayshill Road, which has been closed for refurbishment since December 2008.

No further properties have officially been announced for the Chapter Hotels brand, although the Swire Properties website confirms that the group owns three other UK hotels – the 75-room Avon George Hotel in Bristol, the 71-room Hotel Seattle in Brighton, and a hotel in Exeter which is currently under renovation and due to reopen next year.

A holding website has been set up at swirehotels.co.uk, and full details of the group’s Asian properties can be seen at swirehotels.com.
