28 Oct 2013 by GrahamSmith

Up to 130 flights have been cancelled at London Heathrow today as a result of the severe storm sweeping across southern England.

The LHR cancellations, which will last until 2230 tonight, mainly affect European and domestic routes.

The airport has implemented a 20 per cent reduction in its schedule until 1100, a 10 per cent reduction between 1100 and 1600, and a five per cent reduction between 1600 and 2230.

London Gatwick airport advised that is "operating a near normal schedule".

However, both airports strongly advised passengers to check with airlines about the status of their flights.

A spokesperson for British Airways said: "We have complied with a request from Heathrow Airport to reduce our flying schedule today as a result of the severe storms.

"All of the cancellations are for our European and domestic flights at Heathrow. All our long-haul flights into and out of London Heathrow are currently planned to operate as normal."

Domestic train services across south England have been disrupted, while Eurostar advised that from 1100 all its trains are running "normally".
