St John Hotel opens near Leicester Square

14 Apr 2011 by BusinessTraveller

St John Hotel, restaurant and bar has opened on Leicester Street opposite the new W Hotel London, an offshoot of the St John Bar and Restaurant in Smithfield.

The 15-room hotel features a ground-floor restaurant, open until 2am to cater for theatre-goers and late nights out in the capital, and serving dishes including pigeon, turnip tops and anchovy, snails and bacon, pike and leek pie, and grilled skirt, chips and mustard.

There is also a bar on the first floor, and 14 Post-Supper Rooms, described as “smaller guest rooms” which “remove the need for a taxi home after supper”, along with the Long Room suite on the top floor.

The hotel is built on the site of the former Manzi’s seafood restaurant, and the building has been “taken back to four walls and rebuilt”, adding a new staircase.

The property is located on the corner of Leicester St and Lisle Street, opposite the new-build W London Leicester Square which opened in February (see online news February 3).

The hotel is the brainchild of Trevor Gulliver and Fergus Henderson, founders of the St John Bar and Restaurant on the corner of Smithfield Market which opened in 1994.

Room rates start from £200 per night – for more information visit stjohnhotellondon.com.
