Swiss carrier Skywork Airlines will launch flights between London City and Bern from March 27, using Dornier 328 turboprop aircraft.

There are currently no direct flights from London City to the Swiss capital, although Flybe does offer seasonal flights from London Gatwick, Manchester and Southampton.

The new Skywork service will operate six-times weekly (Sunday to Friday), departing Bern airport at 1845 and landing at London City at 1925, with the return leg leaving London at 1955 and arriving back in Bern at 2235.

The carrier says that the route will move to a twice-daily (Sunday to Friday) service from September 5, and plans to serve the flights with a larger 70-seater Bombardier Q400 aircraft  “once the Dornier 328 is established on the London City route”.

The Skyworks offering includes “complimentary inflight menus”, with wine and beer available for purchase. The carrier also offers 20kg of free hold luggage per passenger, plus 8kg of cabin luggage – skis, boot bags and sports equipment can be carried from £17.

Fares for the new route start from £52 one way, and Skyworks says it is targeting a 60 per cent load factor for the first six months.
