Fans of Singapore Airlines (SIA) will soon be able to sample the Airbus A380 within Asia. At present the A380 is used between Singapore and Sydney and is set to enter the carrier’s flagship route to London Heathrow next week.

But from May 20, SIA will operate the super jumbo daily to Tokyo Narita. It will be the A380’s first appearance on a local Asia route.

SIA confirmed today that its A380 will operate daily SQ638 out of Singapore returning from Narita the same day on SQ637.

But for May 20 only (to coincide with Narita’s 30th birthday celebrations), SIA will use the A380 to operate SQ636 leaving Singapore at 0040 to reach Tokyo at 0830. The A380 is rostered to return with SQ637 out of Narita at 1300 and into Singapore at 1905.

Later on May 20, SIA will launch its regular daily service with the A380 being used on SQ636 at 2340 from Singapore landing in Narita the next morning at 0730. It will return with SQ637 at 1130 arriving Singapore at 1735.

The Singapore-Tokyo route is popular both with local business and leisure travellers.  It’s also one used by business people from Europe and North America who are combining destinations within the region. Flight time is roughly seven hours in each direction.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) has just taken delivery its third Airbus A380 super jumbo. Like its other A380s this craft is configured with 12 first class suites, 60 business and 399 economy class seats.
