Scotland gains first Doubletree property

7 Oct 2008 by Mark Caswell

Hilton has opened its first Doubletree hotel in Scotland, the Doubletree by Hilton Aberdeen City Centre.

Formerly the Aberdeen Patio Hotel, the property has been rebranded as the UK’s second Doubletree, following the opening of the Doubletree by Hilton Cambridge Garden House earlier this year (see online news February 1).

The 168-room hotel is located on Beach Boulevard close to Aberdeen’s beachfront, and around ten minutes from the city centre. The property is currently undergoing a “multi-phase, multi-million-pound hotel improvement and investment scheme”. Current facilities include 300 sqm of meeting space, a business centre, spa, gym, indoor heated swimming pool, whirlpool, steam room, sauna, two restaurants and a bar.

Hilton is aiming to open around 20 Doubletree hotels in the UK within the next five to ten years, which it says it will achieve via conversions of existing properties. The first Doubletree announced for Scotland was in fact the rebranding of the historic Dunblane Hydro Hotel in Perthshire (see online news May 7), although it will not officially join the Doubletree fold until next year. Next up in the UK is the Courthouse Hotel in London, which will become the Courthouse Doubletree by Hilton London Regent Street on November 18.
