SAS announces Delhi route

Scandinavian carrier SAS is to launch three-times weekly flights to Delhi at the end of this month.

The airline says it will commence flights from Copenhagen to the Indian capital on October 27, using A340-300 aircraft configured with economy, Economy Extra (premium economy) and business class cabins.

Outbound flights will depart on Mondays, Wednesday and Saturdays at 1820, arriving into Delhi at 0630 the next day. The return leg departs on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays at 0915, arriving back into Copenhagen at 1315.

Connections via the UK include options from London, Birmingham and Manchester. As an example, the 1405 departure from London Heathrow gets in to Copenhagen at 1700, allowing a 70 minute connection time.

Speculation has been rife regarding the future of SAS, with rumours of a Lufthansa buy out leading to the airline’s shares being suspended last month (see online news September 12). A report on bloomberg.com yesterday (October 6) suggests that while the airline is still looking at partnership and takeover possibilities, this may now be delayed due to the global credit crisis.
