S7 joins Oneworld

Russian carrier S7 has become the 12th full member of the Oneworld alliance, with subsidiary airline Globus joining as an affiliate member.
The combined carrier serves a total of 90 destinations in 28 countries, and has added 55 new cities to Oneworld’s network within Russia and the CIS, nearly tripling the number of destinations served by the alliance in the region.
S7 also adds nine countries to the Oneworld map, namely Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
To celebrate the airline’s inauguration, members of S7’s Priority frequent flyer scheme will receive double the normal mileage when flying on partner airlines until January 15, 2011. Equally members of all Oneworld carrier schemes will receive double miles when flying with S7 over the same period.
S7 was supported during the 18-month integration process by founding Oneworld carrier British Airways, and speaking at the inauguration event BA’s CEO Willie Walsh said:
“Our aim has always been to establish oneworld as the world’s pre-eminent and most successful global airline alliance, with an unrivalled collection of quality carriers, offering the best coverage of the places our key target customers really want to reach and delivering unmatched benefits to customers and member airlines.
“Our focus on quality means that we are particularly selective and demanding in the airlines we invite to join us. We only consider carriers who match the quality of our existing members – in their approach to customer service, innovation, safety and security. Today, oneworld has added another great airline, the best, we firmly believe, in Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States – S7.”
Rival Russian carrier Aeroflot is a member of the Skyteam alliance.
German airline Air Berlin and Indian carrier Kingfisher have also signed agreements to join Oneworld – for more information visit oneworld.com.
