Russian carrier S7 Airlines is to join the Oneworld alliance next year.
The airline will be sponsored by British Airways during its 18-month alliance implementation programme, and ahead of this S7’s network will be added to Oneworld’s Global Explorer round-the-world fare from June 1.
The acceptance of S7 into the Oneworld alliance will add eight countries to the group’s network (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan), and a total of 54 new cities, 35 of them in Russia.
S7 will become Oneworld’s 12th full member, with Mexicana due to join the fold later this year (see online news April 10, 2008).
It’s been a busy day for alliance developments, with Star Alliance
announcing that Greek carrier Aegean Airlines will join its group – see online news May 26.
