Low-cost carrier Ryanair will drop flights between London Stansted and Glasgow Prestwick at the end of October, according to a report by the Glasgow Evening Times.
The report cites increases in APD charges as the reason for the decision, with CEO Michael O’Leary quoted as saying: “For a flight of £9 you are looking at a duty charge of £12 and £24 for a return … it’s nuts and is just not sustainable”.
Bmi dropped its flights between London Heathrow and Glasgow airport earlier this year, blaming increased fees at the London hub (see online news January 31). But BA’s Cityflyer subsidiary recently increased frequencies on its London City-Glasgow route to five-times daily (see online news April 13).
