Ryanair looks set to relaunch flights to Belfast, five years after it dropped services to the Northern Irish capital.
Local media reports suggest the low-cost carrier will announce a new route between London Gatwick and Belfast International tomorrow (Thursday).
The new service has been made possible by Gatwick slots freed up by the takeover of Aer Lingus by British Airways (see news July 2015).
Aer Lingus has already confirmed it will cease its route between Gatwick and Belfast City airport in March (see news November 2015), but it is understood the new Ryanair service will fly into the larger Belfast International.
Ryanair has previously operated a base at Belfast City. The carrier dropped services to five UK destinations in 2010, at the time blaming delays to the airport’s new runway (see news August 2010).
