Ryanair passengers say yes to standing room only

The result of Ryanair's survey on a possible standing room only service are in, and its seems that the public is for the idea, but only if it meant a free flight.

In an online survey of 120,000 passengers, 66 per cent said they would stand on a flight if it meant it was free, but only 42 per cent would agree to pay for the service, even at half the price of a seated ticket.

Some 60 per cent of respondents also thought that airline passengers should have a choice of standing on short flights.

When we ran a similar service earlier this month however, only a small percentage of business travellers said they would be prepared to stand during a flight.

A total of 235 visitors to our website responded to the question “Would you be prepared to stand during a flight?”, with 8.5 per cent responding “Yes” and 91.5 per cent responding “No”.

Responding to the positive result Ryanair’s Stephen McNamara said: “Ryanair will continue to explore the concept of ‘fare free standing’ flights with Boeing and the relevant aviation authorities in the US and EU.”

It would never be allowed by Safety Authorities, & i am sure no insurers would offer anyone travel insurance, or life insurance. The whole base of plane safety is built into the seats, distribution of weight etc, everything that would negated should seat be taken out. Like to see that in turbulence... A stupid idea again from O'Leary...he seems to have lost his marbles in recent times...as well as a lot of business. there is little or no difference between "Low cost" & full service airlines now. Why bother with Ryanair antmore? It will as much get off the ground, as his grounded Stanstead planes this winter!

It's mere attention seeking nonsense.

Mark, I know you and I don't agree much on BA, but on this case you are 100% correct. The problem is O'Leary is the wizard at free publicity. Just another publicity stunt like all his others. I wish more and more people would avoid Ryanair just to shut O'Leary up!

Agree with both sentiments above. Would be delighted if Business Traveller would shut up about Ryan Air. If anyone really wants to fly with them, they know where the web site is and they can help themselves to their booking - if they can afford it with the liberal taxes and charges applied!
