Jet to commence Bangalore-Brussels flights

Jet Airways will begin flights between Bangalore and Brussels this October. Subject to government approval the Indian carrier will commence daily flights on October 31 using an Airbus A330.

The proposed flights will depart Bangalore at 0135, arriving into Brussels at 0755, with the return leg leaving Brussels at 1005, arriving back in India at 0005. The timings will also allow Midlands-based passengers to connect between Brussels and Birmingham airports, due to Jet’s existing codeshare on this route with Brussels Airlines.

The new route from Bangalore follows fellow Indian carrier Kingfisher’s decision to commence flights between London Heathrow and Bangalore from September 3 (see online news August 22). For more information visit jetairways.com.

Etihad to serve Nigeria

Etihad Airways is to launch flights to the Nigerian cities of Lagos and Abuja next year.

The four-times weekly “triangular” service will be served using an Airbus A330-200 aircraft configured for 22 passengers in business class and 240 in economy. The exact start date for flights (which are still subject to goverment approval) has yet to be released, although the carrier says it “may begin service in March 2009”.

The new route will add to Etihad’s growing African network, which currently includes Johannesburg, Cairo, Casablanca and Khartoum. For more information visit etihadairways.com.

Finnair launches Yekaterinburg route

Finnair will commence flights to the Russian city of Yekaterinburg next week (September 2).

The three-times weekly service (operating in conjunction with Ural Airlines) will be plied with an Airbus A319 aircraft, with a flight duration of around three hours. The outbound leg will depart Helsinki on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 2350, with the return flight leaving Yekaterinburg on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 0650.

Yekaterinburg is Finnair’s third Russian destination after Moscow and St Petersburg – for more information visit finnair.com.
