Ritz-Carlton Rewards: the lowdown

15 Sep 2010 by BusinessTraveller

Marriott’s luxury hotel brand has launched a loyalty scheme under the name Ritz-Carlton Rewards. It’s separate from the existing Marriott Rewards scheme, and indeed the frequently asked questions state that “guests cannot be members of both programmes at the same time”, although there is reciprocal earning and burning privileges across the two schemes.

The new scheme is now accepting enrolments at ritzcarltonrewards.com, and members will earn 10 points or two airline miles for every US dollar spent on room rates at Ritz-Carlton and Marriott properties, which can be redeemed against hotel stays or flights with airline partners.

Redemption rates for Ritz-Carlton properties range from 30,000 to 70,000 points depending on the tier within which the hotel falls, and members receive a fifth night free when redeeming a four-night stay. Silver status is achieved after 10 nights, with Gold after 50 nights and Platinum after 75. Gold and Platinum members enjoy benefits including bonus points, room upgrades, and free internet access.

So far, so very similar to the existing Marriott Rewards scheme, and given the reciprocal earning and burning priveleges, what incentive is there to switch across to the new scheme?

Well, Ritz-Carlton has established member benefits with high-end partners including luxury travel specialist Abercrombie and Kent (offering a complimentary three-year membership in the group’s Marco Polo Club for Gold and Platinum Elite members), as well as workshop opportunities with National Geographic Expeditions and partnerships with fashion designers Neiman Marcus and Vera Wang.

To encourage enrolments Ritz-Carlton has also launched an introductory promotion offering new members a free night after two stays, or two free nights after four stays (valid for tier 1-3 redemptions). Paid-for stays must be completed by December 31, 2010, and note that the offer is only open to completely new members, not those already members of Marriott Rewards.
