Rezidor unveils plans for fifth UK airport hotel

Hotel group Rezidor has announced the Radisson Blu Hotel, East Midlands Airport, its fifth UK property attached to an airport.
The 216-room new-build is slated to open in the first quarter of 2012, and follows Radisson Blu and Park Inn hotels in Manchester, London Stansted, London Heathrow and Edinburgh.
The hotel will be located 800m from the airport’s main terminal, alongside the M1 motorway. East Midlands Airport itself is a hub for regional and low cost airlines such as Bmibaby and Ryanair, serving the nearby cities of Leicester, Derby and Nottingham.
Rezidor said the 750sqm of event space would “suitably position the hotel for the MICE market”. But leisure will also be well-served with a restaurant, bar/lounge, coffee shop, gym and indoor pool. The 208 rooms and eight suites will all come with free high-speed internet access.
Other Radisson Blu airport hotels of note include properties at Zurich Airport, Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, and in October last year work was completed on the Radisson Blu Hamburg Airport (see online news October 24).
