Regus opens flagship London business lounge

10 Jun 2009 by Mark Caswell

The Regus Group, global providers of serviced offices and meeting facilities, has opened a flagship lounge in Berkeley Square, London. The new space is an expansion of its existing lounge there to some 65,000 square feet, and now with 632 work stations and room for over 300 in its meeting rooms.

The giant facility is one of the new breed of business lounges which Regus believes will be servicing the increasing number of “knowledge workers” who spend 95 per cent of their day working alone, in different locations and on different schedules to colleagues. As a result the company is introducing “drop-in” lounges such as that reported in Business Traveller in September 2007.

The new lounge allows business travellers to simply walk in off the street, straight into the lounge area. Holders of a Regus membership card (starting from £199 per year, or free with a subscription to Business Traveller) can use the lounge facilities, which includes both wired and wireless internet access, and free water, tea and coffee. There are also several different rooms available for booking, including a library style room, private meeting rooms, or small computer pods where you simply sit down and plug in your laptop (there are also computers available for those without). The flexibility of the lounge means that you can upgrade to a day office or rent an office by the week or month.

The new business lounge resembles a high end airport lounge such as the new BA lounges at London’s Heathrow Terminal 5, with the added advantage of full business and secretarial support immediately available. Most impressive of all is the telepresence room, where a state of the art video-conferencing facility has been installed, the first of a planned 15 in phase one, rising to 25 eventually. The Polycom system is compatible with other systems (such as Tandberg) and seats 10 people.

Regus says that the current economic climate means that companies are looking to lower their costs, with a threefold increase in mobile worker product sales compared to six months ago. The company now has over 1,000 business lounges and cafes worldwide.
