Radisson to open its first hotel in the north-east

Radisson SAS will open its 13th hotel in the UK and the Channel Islands in Durham this November.

The 207-room property will be located 10 minutes’ walk from Durham’s train station and will have a restaurant, bar, gym, swimming pool and treatment rooms.

For business travellers Radisson offers free wifi internet and the hotel will have 10 flexible meeting rooms and a conference area, which can cater for 600 delegates and 400 for a sit down dinner.

The Radisson property will be a boost to Durham’s hotel scene, as until now the Durham Marriott Royal County and the Premier Inn Durham City Centre (near the Gala Theatre) were the only major hotel brands in the centre of the city. Perhaps in view of the Radisson’s imminent arrival, the Marriott has recently been refurbished at a cost of around £3 million.

Other hotels of note in Durham are Grafton House, a boutique hotel which caters for both leisure and business travellers, and The Fallen Angel Hotel, a new boutique offering due to open in August. Further out are Lumley Castle Hotel and Seaham Hall Hotel and Spa.
