Radisson Blu set to reopen in Tripoli

9 Nov 2011 by BusinessTraveller

The Radisson Blu Al Mahary Hotel in Tripoli is set to reopen in the coming weeks, following repairs to damaged sustained during the recent civil war.

Puneet Chhatwal, executive vice president and chief development officer for the Rezidor Hotel Group, said that the damage to the hotel had now been repaired, and that the property would reopen "soon".

Located in the diplomatic quarter overlooking Al Fatah Street and city's corniche, the hotel is one of only a few international hotel brands in Tripoli.

Luxury Maltese-based chain Corinthia Hotels operates a property overlooking Tripoli's shoreline to the west of the city's port. According to a recent report by the Malta Independent Online, the hotel is "returning to normal operations", having continued to operate on a reduced scale during the conflict.

Marriott opened its first property in Libya in February, just days before the start of hostilities. The 370-room JW Marriott Hotel Tripoli is located around 30 minutes from the city's airport, and its website currently states that "Due to the political unrest in Libya, the JW Marriott Hotel Tripoli is not accepting incoming reservations until further notice".

Starwood Hotels and Resorts also operates a new Four Points by Sheraton hotel close by - again its website says the property is "currently not accepting bookings until further notice".
