Qatar to launch "two new routes" to Europe

Qatar Airways says it finalising details for two new routes to European destinations, and has confirmed that it will begin flights to Sydney and Melbourne.

Business Traveller revealed yesterday that an announcement on the Australian routes was imminent (see online news March 10), and Qatar says that the routes to are being made possible as new Boeing 777-200LR aircraft (capable of flying non-stop to Oz from Doha) join the Qatar fleet. The carrier also says it will begin services to the Indian cities of Amritsar and Goa, increasing its Indian portfoilio to 11 destinations.

Qatar says that two new Europan services “are being earmarked over the next nine months”. The airline will also commence non-stop flights to Houston on March 30, again using the 777-200LR aircraft, which are fitted with the carrier’s new fully-flat business class product (click here for a review).

In addition to the new routes, Qatar says it will step up frequencies to Geneva (from four to five flights per week from March 29), Lagos (up from five flights per week to daily), Kuala Lumpur (from seven flights per week up to 10 from June 1), as well as increases on services to Manila, Muscat, Mashad, Algiers and Tunis.
