Qatar to double Singapore frequencies

9 Feb 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Qatar Airways will increase its currently daily service between Doha and Singapore to double daily over the next few months, and is “evaluating several new route options” in the Far East.

The carrier will add three weekly flights to the route from May 1, followed by another three from October 1, and a final extra flight will be added from November 3, taking the route frequency to double daily before the end of this year.

The move will mean travellers will have the choice of morning and evening departures from Doha to Singapore, or evening and late night departures in the opposite direction.

Note though while the existing flights are served with Boeing 777 aircraft featuring the carrier's fully flat beds in business class, the new services will be plied with Airbus A330 aircraft with an angled lie-flat business class product.

Qatar's CEO Akbar Al Baker said that Singapore had been “one of our best-performing routes in the entire region for a long time, with load factors consistently in the high 90s”.

He added that the Far East continues to be “a key market” for the airline, and said that it was “evaluating several new route options which we intend to launch over the next 18 months”.
