Qantas launches A380 flights to the UK

16 Jan 2009 by Mark Caswell

Australian carrier Qantas will start plying the famous Kangaroo route (via Singapore) with A380 aircraft from later today, with flight QF31 departing Sydney at 1740 local time, arriving into London at 0525 on Saturday.

Qantas will initially operate three A380 services on the route per week, with QF31 from Sydney to London via Singapore flying on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and the return leg QF32 operating on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays, also via Singapore.

The airline has so far taken delivery of three A380s, and is already flying the aircraft on selected days between LA and both Melbourne and Sydney. Qantas says it will take delivery of a further four superjumbos in 2009, with the next one due in May.

It's the first time that A380s from different carriers will go head-to-head on the same route, as Singapore Airlines already plies both the London-Singapore and Singapore-Sydney routes with the superjumbo (on selected services).
