Six passengers have been killed in a crash at Cork airport involving a Manx2 commuter flight, the BBC is reporting.

According to the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) a Metroliner SW4 aircraft with ten passengers and two crew crashed following a third attempt to land at the airport in low visibility conditions.

The IAA confirmed that rescue and fire crew are in attendance, and that “a fire and debris has been scattered onto the runway and over a wide area”, but said that “No details of injuries or fatalities are available”.

However the BBC understands that six people have been killed and several other are injured. Manx2 has released an emergency phone number at 00 353 214 32 88 20.

Cork airport is currently closed, and Ryanair says that the remainder of its schedule from the airport today will operate from Shannon.

More details will be posted here when available.
