Park Plaza Westminster Bridge to open in February

Following a soft opening in January, the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge London will open to paying guests in February.

The mammoth 1,021-room, 15-storey property, located on the South Bank with views of Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, will have a strong conference offering, with the largest of its 31 meeting spaces holding 1,600 delegates theatre-style.

Despite its size, general manager Andrew Swindells told Business Traveller the property would retain a personal feel. “While it may be a big hotel, it doesn't feel like it from the inside,” he said. “It feels very boutique in style and the colour scheme gives it a warm feel. There aren't big long corridors, and there are only 80 rooms on each floor, so it doesn't feel so big.”

The hotel will have an all-day brasserie-style restaurant led by Michelin-starred chef Joel Antunes, as well as a 25-seat sushi eatery, a coffee shop and a pastry counter. Other facilities include a 24-hour business centre, a 15-metre pool, a spa with eight treatment rooms and a round-the-clock gym.

All rooms will have a separate bath and shower, and free wired and wifi internet access for business purposes (accessing sites such as iPlayer that use more bandwidth will come at a charge). They will also be equipped with a 37-inch flatscreen TV, a power block containing a range of plug sockets and iPod charging capability, and a minibar with a separate fridge.

Swindells said the hotel would offer something that other four-stars didn't. “It’s different because the hotel is very design-led – you'll see things you wouldn't expect to see in a four-star,” he said. “There are thousands of pieces of art on display. The chairman and interior designer have worked hard to create a spectacular experience.”
