Hertz has launched a scooter rental service for customers in London, Paris and the French Riviera.
Initially the scooters will be available from Hertz London locations in Marble Arch, Russell Square and Fulham Palace Road, as well as four Paris branches, and selected locations in the south of France including Lens, Monaco and Nice.
The Scooter Collection in London includes the Piaggio 50 and 100cc, Yamaha Neos 50cc and Honda Dylan 125cc, while in Paris and the Riviera the fleet includes the Peugeot Satelis 125cc.
Obvious advantages of the scooter hire include fuel-efficiency, and exemption from the congestion charge in London, although whether business travellers will be persuaded to change their car or taxi for an open-air ride remains to be seen.
Hertz scooter rentals are available for a minimum of three days (£23 per day), to renters 18 years and older in the UK and 21 years and older in France. To rent a 50cc or 100cc scooter customers must hold either a valid Compulsory Basis Training Certificate (CBT), full car licence issued before Feb 1, 2001 or a licence specifically detailing motorcycles/mopeds. The latter two apply when renting a 125cc scooter.
