Low-cost carrier Norwegian will fly three-times weekly between Manchester and Oslo Gardemoen airports from October 31, adding to existing routes to Scandinavia from London and Edinburgh.

Flights will depart Manchester on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 1020, arriving in Oslo at 1330, with the UK-bound leg leaving Norway at 0840 and landing at 0950.

Rival carrier SAS currently offers five-times weekly flights between Manchester and Oslo, with Bmi codesharing on the route.

A press release from Manchester airport said that the new Norwegian route is “based around the incredible interest in Norway for the big Premiership football teams in the North West; but it also represents an opportunity for business and leisure travelers alike to visit Oslo and other key points in the Norwegian domestic and Scandinavian network”.

Norwegian offers around 90 flights per week from London Gatwick and Edinburgh to destinations including Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Alesund and Trondheim in Norway, Copenhagen and Aalborg in Denmark and Stockholm in Sweden.

The carrier recently launched wifi internet on selected services, with 41 aircraft set to be fitted with the technology by 2012 (see online news February 9).
