New rules for Easyjet cabin bags

15 May 2013 by GrahamSmith

Easyjet is changing its cabin baggage allowance policy from July 2.

Under the new rules, the airline guarantees that any passengers who take on board a bag no bigger than 50cm x 40cm x 20cm will be able to keep their luggage with them in the cabin.

The current maximum size permitted - 56cm x 45cm x 25cm - will remain unchanged, but passengers carrying bags bigger than 50cm x 40cm x 20cm on busy flights will run the risk of being asked to put their bag in the hold.

Easyjet cabin bag guarantee

A spokesperson for Easyjet said: "From July 2, Easyjet is introducing a cabin bag guarantee - this means that for passengers who bring a bag no bigger than 50cm x 40cm x 20cm we will guarantee it can travel in the cabin.

"There is no change to our bag policy which means that 56cm x 45cm x 25cm bags are still permitted onboard. However, the bag guarantee is a way for passengers to gain peace of mind that their bag will travel with them onboard the flight."

Easyjet has no plans to reduce the maximum baggage size permitted in the cabin. The airline does not charge passengers for bringing a cabin bag onboard and there is no weight limit.

The spokesperson added: "Even if a relatively small proportion of passengers decides to bring the smaller sized bag, it will go a long way to help reduce the number of incidences where a passenger's bag has to go into the hold.

"For business travellers who have booked up-front seats and have speedy boarding, if they continue to board the aircraft first then their bag wouldn't be at risk anyway."

Business Traveller recently took the new crop of cabin bags for a test-drive, although most of these are too large to comply with Easyjet's new cabin allowance.
