The Rezidor Hotel Group has announced plans for new Park Inn and Radisson Blu properties in South Africa’s largest city. The two properties are due to open in the Sandton business district next year.

Kurt Ritter, president & CEO of Rezidor, said: “This brings our portfolio on the African continent to 28 hotels; seven of them in South Africa alone where we see a huge potential.”

Sandton is already home to the 290-room Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton, which opened earlier this year. The new Radisson Blu Hotel Sandton Central is due to open in early 2010 and will have 200 guestrooms.

The new Park Inn Sandton will be located on Katherine Street and will have 270 bedrooms, Park Inn’s signature restaurant Red Bar & Grill, an outdoor swimming pool with terrace and bar and a fitness facility. Meeting facilities will include seven conference rooms.

Sandton is home to the Johannesburg Stock Exchange as well as a number of multinational corporations, banks and financial institutions. The nearby Sandton Convention Centre is one of the region’s largest.

Rezidor is also set to open a third property in South Africa next year, under its newest brand Hotel Missoni (see online news June 9).
