East Midlands Trains has opened a new lounge for passengers travelling in first class from Nottingham train station. The First Lounge provides free wifi internet access, newspapers, drinks and snacks, with a First Lounge host on hand help with rail enquiries.

Lawrence Bowman, East Midlands Trains’ station manager in Nottingham, said: “We believe the new First Lounge is a fantastic addition to the station, and will be seen as a significant step forward by our passengers. Our aim is to ensure our passengers enjoy their journey with East Midlands Trains from start to finish, and what better way than to start that important trip than a visit to our lounge.”

The lounge holds up to 20 travellers, but is only open between 6am and 1pm, as, according to a spokesperson, these are the busiest times at the station. The rail company also has lounges in London, Leicester and Derby, and has recently announced plans to refurbish its high speed fleet (see online news June 24).

From Nottingham, East Midlands Trains operates high-speed long-distance services to London St Pancras, Sheffield and Derby, plus regional services to Derby, Lincoln, Cleethorpes and Skegness.
