Marriott to open New York’s tallest hotel complex

10 Aug 2011 by BusinessTraveller
Marriott International has announced plans to open a two-hotel development within a 68-storey property at 1717 Broadway at 54th Street. The 230-metre high, new-build property will feature a 378-room Courtyard by Marriott hotel, as well as a 261-room Residence Inn by Marriott property, and is due to open in late 2013. Marriott has signed a franchise agreement with ownership group Granite Broadway Development, with the property to be managed by Interstate Hotels and Resorts. The building will be designed by Nobutaka Ashihar, responsible for other Marriott properties including the Courtyard by Marriott Times Square South, and the Marriott Financial Centre Hotel, also in New York. According to Marriott the project will be the tallest stand-alone hotel in the city (without office or residential space). There will be one main entrance and lobby on 54th Street, with public areas for the Residence Inn on the 3rd floor and for the Courtyard on the 4th floor. Courtyard rooms will be located on floors six to 32, and Residence Inn rooms on floors 36 to 64. The hotels will share ground floor retail space, a 2nd floor leased restaurant, a 5th floor lounge and terrace, and a 34th floor fitness centre.
