Luxury hotel group Mandarin Oriental has announced its second hotel in the Middle East, with the 160-room Doha property due to open in 2014.

The Mandarin Oriental Doha will join the group’s forthcoming hotel in Abu Dhabi (see online news February 15), and will be located within the 35-hectare Musheireb project close to Souk Waqif and the city’s business centre in West Bay.

There will be 160 rooms and suites, along with a further 95 serviced apartments, and facilities will include a spa with 10 treatment rooms, an indoor pool and a fitness centre, as well as “extensive banqueting and meeting facilities”, and “a variety of restaurants and bars”, including the group’s “cake shop” concept.

Qatar’s capital of Doha continues to see rapid hotel expansion, with Marriott alone due to open three properties in the West Bay are later this year (see online news May 6).
