Mandarin Oriental Boston opens

It’s taken US$300 million and nine years, but the Mandarin Oriental, Boston finally opened its doors this week.

The new-build property is located on Boylston St in the city’s upmarket Back Bay district, and features 148 rooms ranging from 37 sqm upwards. Room features include 42-inch flatscreen TVs, wired and wifi internet access, and marbled bathrooms with separate bathtub and rain shower. Interiors have been designed by Frank Nicholson Incorporated, responsible for luxury hotel projects including the Ritz Carlton and Four Seasons brands.

For business travellers there is 900 sqm of meeting space, including a 400-sqm ballroom. The hotel is also located next to the Prudential Centre, a 52-storey office and retail complex, and is connected to the centre’s shops by a covered walkway.

Asana restaurant will serve American and Asian dishes, while M Bar and Lounge features a wine wall with over 300 vintages. The hotel also has a spa and fitness centre, with Vitality pools, “experience” showers, nine treatment rooms, and a gym with Technogym equipment and a Kinesis Wall.

The property also includes the Residences at Mandarin Oriental, with 50 condominiums and 35 apartments also enjoying access to the hotel’s amenities. The Mandarin Oriental, Boston is the group’s fifth hotel in the US, with further properties under development in Las Vegas, Chicago and Dallas. In Europe the brand is due to debut in Spain (Barcelona) and Morocco (Marrakech) next year, and it also recently announced a Moscow property for 2011 (see online news July 23).
