Israeli carrier El Al has become the first scheduled airline to operate a 777-200 aircraft into London’s Luton airport.

The carrier usually plies the Tel Aviv-Luton route with Boeing 767 aircraft (configured for 192 seats), but “due to unprecedented demand” a 777-200 was rostered onto the route this week, increasing capacity by around 50 percent.

Said Uri Danor, CEO UK & Northern Europe, EL AL Israeli Airlines:“EL AL is proud to be the first scheduled carrier to operate the B777-200 into London Luton, especially when so many of our passengers want to get home for the holidays.”

“We are sure that it will also attract more business passengers to London Luton in the future.”

El Al switched flights from London Stansted to Luton last year (see online news May 11, 2009), and also offers a service from Heathrow using a mixture of Boeing aircraft depending on demand.
