Lufthansa and Swiss to provide free UK airport transfers

2 May 2013 by Alex McWhirter

Lufthansa and Swiss are planning to offer free chauffeur-driven cars to and from selected UK airports for their first class passengers.

The facility will start next week.  Although we cannot confirm the exact date (because the news is literally ‘hot off the press’) we know that the offer will be valid for passengers starting their journeys in Birmingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.

The transfers will be restricted to a 50-mile radius of the above airports.  It comes at a time when Lufthansa is seeking ways in which it can make its prestigious first class service stand out from the rest.

It is believed that it is the first time that Lufthansa or indeed any other European carrier has offered such a service in the UK market for first class passengers.

The offer is available to those passengers who purchase their tickets in the UK.

Lufthansa says that the scheme is a trial.  Initially it will be offered only at the above three airports.  It should run at least until the autumn and it is understood it will cover bookings made by August 30.

Details for this service are available on lhfirst.cabforce.com. But please note that, at the time of writing, this site may not be fully functional.
