Liverpool’s Marriott South to become Crowne Plaza

Don’t bother to pack your Marriott Rewards card when staying at its Liverpool South property this autumn, as the hotel is to defect to the Intercontinental chain from August 1. The four-star property will be renamed the Crowne Plaza Liverpool John Lennon Airport

The 163-room hotel occupies the original art deco airport terminal and control tower, and is conveniently located a mile from the airport’s new terminal and close to major business players like HBOS, Jaguar and Eli Lilly.

So why the change?

John Paul Nel, Marriott’s area VP for Northern England explained to Business Traveller/ABTN that the Liverpool South property was owned by Neptune Holdings which has now decided to exit the hotel business.  “So the property was put up for sale and Marriott was outbid by another hotel company [InterContinental].”

“Yes, we would have liked to have kept Liverpool South but the price was higher than we were prepared to pay.”

“[Despite losing this hotel] Marriott remains committed to the UK market. We have four hotels under development: two Courtyards (Gatwick and Aberdeen), one Marriott (Twickenham) and a Renaissance (St Pancras).”

Meanwhile lead-in rates at the Crowne Plaza Liverpool John Lennon airport (to give it the new name) for stays from August 1 remain the same at £95 a night.  But check for any launch offers near the takeover time.
