KLM will take over operation of subsidary Martinair’s route between Amsterdam and Havana this winter, as the latter ceases passengers flights by the end of the year.
Martinair currently operates routes including Cancun and Havana on behalf of KLM, with up to six flights per week to Cuba using Boeing 767-300 aircraft configured for economy and Comfort Class seating.
But Martinair will stop flying the Havana route at the end of October, with KLM taking over on October 31 and offering a three-times weekly service using MD11 aircraft configured for 261 economy and 24 World Business Class seats.
Flights will depart Amsterdam on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 1315, arriving in Havana at 1745. The return leg will leave Cuba at 1945, landing back in Amsterdam at 1045 the next day.
Founded in 1958, Martinair will discontinue all passenger services by the end of 2011, in order to “concentrate fully on its air freight activities”.
