KLM to resume Rio services

KLM has joined the growing list of carriers either launching or increasing services to Rio de Janeiro, with three-times weekly flights starting on November 1.
The carrier last served the Brazilian city 12 years ago, but is resuming services ahead of Brazil’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup in 2014, and the 2016 Olympic games in Rio.
Flights will depart Amsterdam on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 1040, landing in Rio at 1930, with the return leg leaving at 2140 and landing back in Amsterdam at 1155 the following day.
The route will be served with B777-200ER aircraft, configured for 35 passengers in business class and 283 in economy.
Other carriers to recently announce new or increased services to Rio include:
- Alitalia – introduction of the only direct route between Rome and Rio
- Lufthansa – resumption of Frankfurt-Rio route from October
- BA – doubling of Rio services to six-time weekly from the of October
- TAM – doubling of Rio-London services to six-times weekly from August
- Emirates – launch of flights to Buenos Aires via Rio from next year
- Tranaero – launch of direct flights between Moscow and Rio
