KLM commemorates 90th birthday with 90th Delft Blue House

9 Oct 2009 by Mark Caswell

Dutch carrier KLM celebrated its 90th birthday earlier this week, and has unveiled its latest Delft Blue House, given to business class passengers on intercontinental flights.

The replica porcelain houses (filled with Dutch gin) have become collectors items since they were first introduced in the 1950s, and since 1994, the number of Delft Houses produced has matched the age of the airline.

This year’s replica is of Wester Amstel house in Amstelveen, one of the oldest merchant’s houses in Holland, dating back to 1662. KLM has also produced a book entitled House No. 90, with details of the previous 89 replicas.
