Indian carrier Kingfisher has been granted rights for seven new international routes, paving the way for flights between London and Delhi among other destinations.

In July last year the airline announced it was dropping its route between London and Bengalaru, but also unveiled a new “roadmap” for its next phase of international routes (see online news July 13, 2009).

These plans have now moved a step closer with the granting of traffic rights on the following routes:

  • New Delhi – London
  • New Delhi – Hong Kong
  • New Delhi – Bangkok
  • New Delhi – Dubai
  • Mumbai – Colombo
  • Mumbai – Bangkok
  • Mumbai – Dubai

Start dates have not yet been announced for the new routes, but Kingfisher says that the London-Delhi route will be plied with Airbus A330 aircraft. Commenting on the expansion plans Chairman and CEO Dr Vijay Mallya said:

“We may even look at inducting new aircraft into our fleet sooner than planned so that we are fully geared to capitalize on the upturn. We are actively pursuing various options for fund raising and our plans are on track."

The London to Delhi route is currently served by BA, Virgin, Air India and Jet Airways.
